Elisa VELLIA

Elisa Vellia was born and grew up in the heart of Greece, lullabied by the melodies of her country.  Her desire for discovery and adventure pushed her to quit Athens for London. It is in the Londonian Underground that she comes to hear the Celtic harp for the first time. In great enthusiasm, she works beside some important names of the Irish and the Scottish harp and participates at the recording of two discs with Scottish music. Her musical trajectory brings her to Brittany where she settles, finding, in between the Two Seas, the ideal place for her to express her own music, which is one with no borders. The singer-harpist creates together with Christine the duo Sedrenn that quickly becomes popular. Numerous concerts travel them through France and also abroad. Elisa feels more and more the need to express herself in her mother’s tongue and to return toward Greek music territories. Her first solo album, called “The thief of secrets”, was issued in 2005 for the collection Chant du Monde (World Song) of Harmonia Mundi (best-selling in this category for the year 2006). For many years now she gives harp playing lessons and regularly  animates international workshops (Festivals of Dinan, Edinburgh, Holland, Germany, Amzer Nevez...) as well as many masterclasses all over France. Elisa proposes an especially outstanding and original repertory inspired by her origins, her voyages and the Celtic lands where she lives since a long time ago. In her teaching, singing and dancing are of great importance.
